Blackberry wifi help!?
I'm new to Blackberry phones and I'm looking into buying a Blackberry today. I heard the Blackberry 8820 has Wifi capability. I'm not looking into spending around $40 a month for internet to be put on my phone. My question is, if I have a wifi router at my house and I buy the 8820 (without buying the internet capability) would I still be able to access the internet from my house using my wifi router? Thanks!

- Yes. You can use the BlackBerry's Wi-Fi browser and your Wi-Fi router to access the Internet on the 8820 without purchasing the BlackBerry data plan. And you shouldn't be charged for data usage by your carrier, because the data will be going through your ISP, and not the wireless carrier (cell phone company).
- Ok - let me answer this pretty straightforwardly. 1 - There is no point to buying a blackberry for the phone only. The blackberry is a data device which also happens to have some phone stuff. 2 - While you can technically use the device without the data plan, once you use it at home w/ the router, you'll want to use it all the time. There's nothing like being lost and pulling google maps up to tell you where you are. 3 - If you have problems using the router, you'll get no help w/o the data plan. In fact, some carriers cut off the data traffic all together, which might foil your plans to use the router w/o the data plan. So - bottom line is, save yourself the trouble. If you don't want data, get a LG or Nokia or something. If you want a blackberry (and I am using the 8820 now - very choice device) then get the unlimited data plan.
