Blackberry 8820 - How to use WiFi with my phone?

So I am a T-Mobile customer with a plan and what not and my sister gave me a Blackberry 8820 so I put in my sim card and it has been working fine. I do not have an internet plan or data plan on my tmobile account. My question is can I use the browser on my Blackberry with an available WiFi connection? Thanks

  1. Hi, The answer is yes, as long as there is an available wi-fi connection, you should be able to use the browser. 1. Set the options for the Browser (not the WAP Browser, they're different) to Wi-Fi Browser. Start the Browser, then call up Options, then Browser Configuration, then click Browser to select Wi-Fi Browser. 2. Connect to your Wi-Fi. Go to Manage Connections and make sure the checkbox beside Wi-Fi is checked. Next click Wi-Fi Options, then click Active Wi-Fi connection to either add a new hotspot manually or scan for an open one. I can't relay complex TCP/IP details, but make sure you connect to a hotspot you can connect to without any special settings using a laptop (e.g. DHCP, no security etc.). Now give the BB time to connect as it can sometimes take up to 30 seconds. You should see the hotspot you entered in the Saved Wi-Fi Profiles list of the Wi-Fi Connections screen. Hover over it and hit the menu key, then select Wi-Fi Diagnostics. Hit the menu key and Options again to select Advanced for Display Mode. Back up and you should see a great amount of TCP/IP and connection status detail, what you want to see are green checkmarks beside the Association, Authentication and DHCP fields. If you don't see the checkmarks give it some time, up to a minute before giving up. If you have these three green checkmarks then you should be good to go, although in my case my Wi-Fi connection icon is still showing as the yellow circle with the bar through it. This may be because I don't have a BB plan from my service provider, but either way I can live with a screwy icon if my Wi-Fi is working. 3. Launch your browser and surf the web. To ensure you're not using your data service, turn off your cell radio by going to Manage Connections again and unticking the box beside Mobile Network. Next launch Browser and surf to the pages you want. Hope this helped!
