Using Wifi with Blackberry Curve 8320 (or any wifi phone for that matter)?

Today I went into an AT&T store to ask about using the wifi on the blackberry curve 8320. I asked if I would have to pay extra if I wanted to use only the wifi to connect to the internet, and the guy (who was a jerk about it) said yes you do because wifi is only there to strengthen an internet connection, not so you can "cheat the system". He said that even with an unlocked Curve (or any other wifi phone) you wouldn't be able to use the wifi feature to get free internet. Is this true? Or is it what I think it is and the clerk at the cell phone store is just saying that so you buy a data plan? that's what i was thinking lol. stupid cellular companies

  1. If I were you, I would go back to the Store, talk to the Store Manager and tell/show him/her how jackass/dumb/ignorant of a employee he's got. Wi-Fi is NOT to strengthen an internet connection. Whoever tells you that, needs a brain replacement... :-) Now, say you have a wireless router at home. Start your Blackberry Wi-Fi and turn-off the radio (as in, turn off your phone connection to your wireless carrier). Now, you are using your Wi-Fi to connect FREE to the internet and do whatever you want with it. One thing though; there are many Wi-Fi spots in the U.S.A. Some are free, MOST are subscription-based which means you need to pay. Of course, your OWN Wi-Fi will always be FREE.
