What Verizon phone can I get that can use my home's wifi and does not require Verizon's web service?

I don't need the internet service on my phone 24/7 but it would be nice to check my email at Starbucks or when my kids have our home computer occupied. My son is buying the Verizon blackberry phone but the service for that phone is $50 a month and I'm not that into looking at the web on a tiny screen....

1. verizons phones do not typically have wifi enabled. you can see if a verizon blackberry would, but i highly doubt it.
2. All Verizon phones have basic email capabilities and the most of Verizon smart-phones have wifi features. But the is no way of getting email without the phone not having web access. This goes for any phone in any network -
