wifi network connections?
I have a Dell PC using XP and have bought a Dell Laptop using Vista. The PC modem/router is D-Link DSL504T and the wireless router is a Belkin G Router. I want to be able to access internet/email on either computer at the same time. I also have a D-Link DVG2001S phone router for voip. The instructions provided do not seem to allow this. How can I configure the routers to make it work? A diagram would be helpful if possible as well as instructions. Jim Also can I get an attachment to allow printing with wifi from the laptop.

- There are basically two different kinds of home networks. The simplest (like mine) is where several computers share the same Internet service via a wireless router. The computers don't communicate with each other or the printer or external storage drives. They just connect to the Internet. This is a very simple network which is easily set up and easily managed. The other kind of network is where each computer has an "address" assigned to it and then you add those addresses to your home network. They can share files among each other and they can share any device(s) (such as a printer) connected to any of the computers. I never had much success trying to set up the home network, and I really have no need for such a setup. So I just use the simple network where all the computers in the house can access the Internet. To do that, you need to connect the wire from the wall to the broadband modem supplied by your Internet service provider. Then you connect that to the "input" of your wireless router. . Your computers must have wireless ethernet cards in order to communicate wirelessly. In this scenario, you could not access the printer connected to your desktop computer from any remote computer. I overcame that problem by purchasing a wireless printer. The phone router shouldn't cause a problem. You need to connect it to your wireless router via one of the wired output ports on the router (usually on the back) if you have a service like Vonage. If you're using some free web site to handle your phone service, then I don't know how you hook that up. If you're interested in networking all the computers together, then you need to study the documentation that came with the wireless router.
- You will have to bridge your routers to make this work. The D-Link DSL504T router is already setup to distribute the internet to you network. Connect the ethernet/internet cable from the D-Link DSL504T modem/router to the WAN port on the Belkin router (its the only port with a different symbol above it the others are LAN ports). Next use another ethernet cable to connect your PC to the LAN port on the Belkin router. Now log into the router to set it up. (See users manual how to log into the router) Once logged in you have to setup the internet connection. Use DHCP if you have a cable connection and use PPPoE if you have a DSL connection. If you use DSL you have to enter the info that was given to you by your internet provider. Next you have to setup your wireless network. Give your wireless network a name (also known as SSID) , network password, set security/encryption to WPA or WPA2. Set channel to Auto. Turn off any MAC address filtering, Turn off any port forwarding. Set channel to Auto. Set to bridge mode. Save and exit. Use you laptop to verify that your wireless network is working.Click on the network icon on the bottom right of the task menu on your screen. Select your network. You may be prompted to enter the network password to access your network. Next use a ethernet cable to connect the WAN port on the VOIP router to an open LAN port on the Belkin router. Next connect your laptop to the LAN port of the VOIP router. Login into the router. Once logged in you have to setup the internet connection. Set it up for a PPPoE connection. You will have to enter the info that was given to you by your internet provider. Set to bridge mode. Save and exit. You can disconnect the cable from the laptop its only needed to configure the router. Note: The network name, network password, and channel has to be the same on all the routers. The security/encryption has to be set to WEP on all 3 routers. Your setup will look similar to this. (see page 41) http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Designing_AirPort_Networks_10.5-Windows.pdf If your printer Does not have Wi-Fi, plug it into the DSL504T or the Belkin router. On your computer go to the Start menu> Control Panel> Printers. If your printer your printer is not listed there click add printer. If listed right click on your printer a select properties. Under the connection Tab select TCP/IP for connection type and enter the routers IP address. Save and exit. Then set the printer as your default printer.
