What cell phones can work with Cingular?
I don't know much about this so I need help. If my friend wants to cell me his T-Mobile cell phone, can it work with Cingular if I unlock it at some kind of phone repair shop? Verizon wouldn't work because they use CDMA, right? But what other companies' phones can work with Cingular? And how much does it cost to unlock a phone?

- Any unlocked GSM phone will work.
- You would have to go to a Cingular store and find out if that phone can be used. My guess is no, but you could always ask. (Your best bet would probably be to get a new phone from Cingular.)
- You are right, any GSM unlocked phone will take your SIM, any CDMA phone will not work. Make sure if you buy a phone off the internet that it has GSM 850 and GSM 1900 if you have cingular, many overseas phoens do not have GSM 850 and you will be in trouble.
- No, u can only use a cingular phone because of the serial numbers. If u buy that phone it will be a total waste of money. In order to use ur friends phone u have to have an active Cingular SIM card.
- i work for cingular, and yes you could use the phone if it were unlocked, cingular doesnt guarantee that all the features will work with their service though, so it's kinda iffy. but you can use t-mobile phones, edge wireless phones, alltell, and i even think nextel and maybe sprint are gsm, and i think verizon even offers a world plan to work with world phones(gsm), not sure on the last two, but basically if it uses a sim card it is possible for it to work with cingulars network, obviosly no guarantees though on cingulars behalf.
- In the US, Unlocked T-Mobile phones will work with Cingular. GSM Phones work with cingular.
