How do I upload sounds from my cell phone to my laptop?

I have an LG Venus, and I used a USB cable to plug it into my laptop (which uses Windows Vista), but the laptop doesn't 'notice' the cell phone plugged in. How do I get the laptop to recognize the phone, and then how do I upload the sound?

1. I can text them to my email adress with my free texting. I don't know if this helps or not.
2. If your cellphone came with a cd, see if it comes with a file transfering software that you can install. If not you can transfer the files yourself, you can do it manually by clicking on "my computer" find your phone memory card, ( mine happens to be the G: drive) and then browse the folders for your music files, good luck
3. using a cellphone usb cord. you put it into where the phone charges, and hook it up to your computer!
