Hi I want to put online but not yet decided which company I choose and I would like to know if I need to have cable or phone for Qwest wireless internet because I have no cable or phone but I just want to wireless internet ... What companies do you recommend to get wireless internet? PLEASE faster the better:) THANK YOU! 10 points!
Do Verizon phones Work with Qwest Wireless Service? I got this Verizon phone for free, and since Verizon is merging with Qwest later in the future, could I go to a Qwest booth right now and they can activate the phone? (I already have a phone and account with Qwest right now)
Stumped on problem with my Qwest wireless Internet connection? I got Qwest DSL about 6 mnths ago. I have had continual problems getting & keeping a connection. I can see I have a strong signal, but then it hangs up (just keeping trying to connect) when it looks for the IP address. If I do get a connection, they last anywhere from several days to a few minutes. Sometimes I can get back in, but mostly I can't. I have replaced the wireless device three times. I have replaced the Qwest DSL modem twice. I have had the same problem on three different computers. Two pcs and one Apple. I have spent hours on the phone with Qwest support and have had a professional tech person here at the house. He couldn't figure it out either. Running XP (OS 10 on the Apple). All machines work ok on other wireless networks. We have tried static adresses several times-- that didn't do it either. If you think you can help me I would so appreciate it, but please, I need explicit instructions. Yes. When I connect via cable, I have a reliable connection. I have tried changing channels, etc. That worked for a while. I do have a TV with remote control close to the wireless devcie, so I am going to try to move it away from the TV. I'll let you know. I'll also get the device names and post them later. Okay, I moved both devices over five feet away from the TV and had no improvement. My Qwest modem is an ActionTec 1000 and my wireless device is a DLink WBR 1310. The combination device I orgininally got from Qwest that had the same problem was a 2wire 2700 HGD Any other suggestions/ideas very welcome!
How to void a wireless phone contract without penalty? I signed up for a wireless phone (Qwest) and wasn't told there was a 2 year contract attached; I never signed anything to that effect. I beleive that I was mislead and would like the contract that I never knew existed void. Qwest is telling me that it will cost $400 to get out of the wireless service. Insights? Thanks.
Problems with Qwest wireless internet connection? We have a wireless internet service from qwest. The modem is Actiontec. The problem is this, we have two laptops. The wireless adapters in the computers are working perfectly because we have been able to connect on other services. With qwest, both our computers will connect to the internet, full strength, but it will only connect for a short period of time and then suddenly drop off. It will take from a few seconds to a couple minutes for it to connect again. We have called in for customer support numerous times and they have changed the channels on it. We have also moved the router away from phones, radiowaves, etc. Nothing seems to work. We used to have DSL and we would experience the same problems. With dsl we had a different modem. What's going on? We have tried resetting the modem. At night we always unplug it.
Can I goet a Sprint CDMA phone and activate it on my Qwest wireless account since Qwest uses Sprint's network? I'm a current Qwest customer and I just got there service in March of this year. Because of where I work, I qualify for a 27 percent discount with Sprint, which is why I want there service. The thing is, Sprint wants me to pay $250 for a deposit just to get a Sprint account, which is simply ridiculous (considering I'd have to pay $200 to cancel my current account...) Anywho, if someone could answer that question i'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
HTC 5800 on Verizon Wireless? I need to get a new phone, and i was looking at Qwest Wireless' HTC 5800 / Fusion / S720. The phone seems perfect, but id like to stay with verizon wireless. According to phonescoop its tentative with verizon wireless. Does anyone know where i can buy this phone for verizon wireless or any phones that are very similar? I'd be willing to switch to AT&T, but no other services.
Wireless internet from Qwest? I dont want to use a house phone anymore but do need internet, does Qwest provides wireless internet??? if so how much does it cost a month??? and what do i have to install???
Verizon Wireless Cell phone replacement? I migrated from Qwest to Verizon Cell phone service as Verizon bought Qwest Wireless. I went with an LGENV2. That phone did not access the internet like I thought it would. I exchanged it for BlackBerry 8330. I have had a lot of problems with BlackBerry. It is just not made to be a phone. I cannot use a Bluetooth. I was not given full disclosure and mislead on Blackberry charges and internet access. I want to buy and keep BlackBerry, not exchange and go back to LG Env2 but a discount price which is $49 after rebate right now. or LG Voyager in Titanium. I have talked to people in Verizon "Executive Office" and only offered $50 off full price. I cannot afford BlackBerry Service. Why should I be punished because I am exsisting customer. I also have another cell phone so they are making $$ on me. Any leads for Executive level help?
Were Verizon Wireless phones on sale Thanksgiving Weekend? I bought the LG Venus on Sunday, Nov. 30. On the verizon website it said 24.99 with mail-in rebate and 25% discount with qwest-to-verizon switch. It was a thanksgiving special that was ending that monday. They charged me more than $25. I have tried calling customer service many times and they seem to think that i can not prove that the website said it was 24.99. Can anyone tell me... Am I crazy or was the LG Venus $24.99 on Thanksgiving weekend??!!
Qwest Wireless to Verizon? When do you think the migration for current Qwest customers will happen. Because I would like to have a new verizon phone very soon. Thanks!
Qwest Internet; no phone jack? ? I recently switched service Qwest Internet and need a phone jack. I have only one and installation isn't really an option. Will a wireless phone jack work or would it impede my speed? What about the phone jacks that plug into power outlets? Thanks for your help.
How do I disbale Wireless Capabilities of my 2WIRE 2700HG Modem? I purchased an Airport Express from Apple to network my printer throughout my family's computers. After talking with a Genius at the Genius bar, he told me to disable the Wireless capabilities of my Internet Providing Modem. Thats pretty much all I need to do. I have already spoken to Apple Care and Qwest Services over the phone, niether of which could help. (the latter having to thick of an Indian accent to understand)
qwuest wireless???? k, i have already asked this but ill try again. people have sent me pics to my phone, but if you use qwest wireless you need internet on your phone to get to them. i do not have internet on my phone, so i cant get to them from my phone. is there a website that i can go to and see my pictures? please help me!!! thank you!
Ok question about wireless internet, what services are best and how do I do it? My school has free wireless hot spots and this is all nice but it isn't very fast when I get on it through my laptop. I want something decently fast for when I'm on the go. I have qwest now through our phone services but it is my dad's and he just shares it with me through his network. So when I leave my house I can't use it, my question is...what do I do to get wireless internet outside of my house, what service should I purchase, what's the cheapest and do I need a wireless card if I am sure I have the wireless card built into my computer already. Any help would be great. I'll be traveling all over the city with this computer pretty much and if I need to open it up outside of my son's day care one day I want to be able to do that, so I will need a service with a great distance range.
Qwest and Verizonwireless? I know that qwest and verizon wireless teamed up. Does this mean that the internet on the phones will be better? Because I want a phone from verizon wireless: the voyager but I heard on the internet that the internet on it is slow. Is that true about the voyager? People who have it and also if it is true will the internet on it be fater now? Just curious
What else do I need besides Netgear USB for wireless? Okay I have one computer in my livingroom with a Qwest DSL modem which has an antenna and they say it can be used for wireless (although the wireless light never lights up). I have a second computer in my bedroom. Both run Windows XP and MSN Premium. I have installed Netgear on both, but both computers say no wireless network is available? I was told at Radio Shack that I didn't need a second modem, and that I didn't need to plug directly into my first computer since they are going to be working independant of one another. They said all I needed was the Netgear USB adapter. For awhile it was working, but then my neighbor moved and as soon as they cut off her phone, my wireless stopped (as did one of my other neighbors) so I guess in actuality we were piggybacking off hers and not our own. What do I need to do?
qwest service??? ok so i have a qwest wireless plan, and i want to know if i can access photos that people have sent me. you need internet on your phone to see them and i got that servise taken away. so i was wondering if there was a website or something where i can get them and yeah. thanks for your help.
PLEASe help!!!!? my mom, brother, and I are looking to get some new cell phones with qwest. on the qwest site it tells you some of the features ( https://shop.qwest.com/en/US/wireless/service?cmd=QW_PlansList&marketSegment=RES ). where it says "free calls between all wireless phones on the plan", does that mean that it will still use up the amount of minutes that we get, or not?
Verizon Wireless XV6800 or XV6900? My phone company (Qwest) is combining with Verizon Wireless. They gave my family a choice to either stay with quest or go with verizon wireless, so we decided to switch to verizon when we called qwest because the phone i currently have (mogul by HTC) started acting funny and really slow. when we called so they could send me a new one or fix it, they said they do not carry the mogul anymore. But they said that if i switch to verizon they have an upgrade of my current phone which is the XV6800 and id get it for free or i could get the touch XV6900... does anybody know which phone is better for a teenager? the XV6800 419.99 and the touch XV6900 is 269.99 with a 2 year contract.
My wireless internet keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. The modem is a Qwest Actiontec GT 701 WG? My icon in my task bar in the lower left of my desktop says I am connected and my signal is strong. I know I'm disconnected because the web page that I try to load says Page Load Error and doesn't load, also my Windows Messenger disconnects. This has only been happening the past few weeks, before now I've had no problems. I do have a cordless phone in my room and one other person that uses this internet modem, who is directly connected to the modem. They aren't experiencing any problems.
Cellphone service question??? I am currently with Sprint PCS, I use to have a Pocket PC phone with Qwest Wireless is it possible to switch over and program the phone to Sprint? I do believe that Qwest wireless is using Sprint network.
Is the HTC Evo like a wireless device for a laptop? I walked into a Radio Shack the other day, and I'm not sure if I misinterpreted what the man was trying to tell me. But what I understood was that if I buy the HTC Evo from Sprint it would also give me access to my laptop computer without having to have it connected with Qwest or Cox. He also mentioned that my house phone would be covered too. So I'm not sure if a 4G phone is able to do all that? :/ ahhh I'm confusing myself
In Denver, who is the best provider of broadband internet service other than Qwest and Comcast? I am currently using dial up, and it is soooooo slowwwwww.....!!! Help me find a wireless or satellite provider of broadband internet access. I also want to get rid of my Qwest home phone line. I am planning on using a Magic jack for home phone service. I followed that link and is said "We’re sorry but CLEAR™ Service is not currently available in your area. " I checked the other link, and it just took me to Comcast and Qwest offers.
What are my options for getting wireless internet on my laptop? I just bought a laptop. I already have a desktop computer that I have internet on. I would like to have internet access on my laptop. Do I have to buy a USB plug through a wireless company and pay monthly or is there any way to hook my laptop up to the same internet that is on my desktop whether wireless or not. We have internet through our phone company (Qwest) so I'm not sure if that's possible. What are my options?
Switched from Qwest to Verizon online & now they want an 800 security deposit. Cancel order? Being as Qwest is switching to Verizon for wireless services, I put in an order (picked my phone, plan, and paid for these charges). After the typical confirmation e-mail, I was sent another saying that I needed to pay an $800 security deposit (I know I have bad credit...but that's ridiculous). Now I want to cancel my order and get the money back for the phones. I'll be refusing the phones when the delivery arrives and have them sent back to Verizon. The question is, am I technically under contract? Will have to pay a termination fee even if I never activate the phones?
Qwest Wifi Web History? Please help. :(? Hi. When my friend was over at my house he used my comp and my ipod touch... apparently my friend went on lets just say... 'special' sites that were... bad... I was wondering if those sites will be recorded on my phone bill. I have Qwest internet provider. I have the box with wireless capabilities which my family uses. So will my friend usng my computer and ipod touch over my qwest wifi make the sites show on the bill? Thanks... P.S. Sorry 4 posting this in multiple places... idk where it really goes. Please help!
Who has the best cell phone and wireless internet service plans out there? Im moving out on my own and I have an Xbox360 and would like to stream netflix as well and have a laptop that I need to connect to wireless as well so I can do my college work. I also live in Utah, if that helps, ha idk I have been looking up online and all i see is horrible companies I used to telemarket for like Qwest/Century Llink and Comcast that have CRAZY high internet prices and bad customer service :/ so they are out of the question. I also was looking in virgin mobile as they have no contract. Anywho, any suggestions please? :)
How do I transfer cell phone service to a new company...? without being billed the contract termination fee? Is this possible? I don't care about keeping the same number, just different provider I currently have wireless through Qwest, it is not all they cracked it up to be, I would like to switch to Cell One.
Qwest DIRECTV and internet plans. Please help!!? I'm moving in to my first apartment where Qwest is available for tv internet and phone service. But I'm most confused about internet. It seems expensive. I just have a lap top. Is 7Mbps fast enough? What is an average wireless speed? Also, Has any one had any experience with Ygnition service?
Qwest (centurylink) help with modem? i have two dsl modems with qwest (centurylink) and i was wondering if i could use one for my pc in my basement and the other upstairs connected to a phone jack to receive wireless internet is that possible or do i have to do something before i could set up the wireless connection upstairs, thankyou:P
How do I know which Internet will work for me? I live in the middle of nowhere and am currently looking at buying a laptop. How do I know which internet to get?!?! Also, there are no internet providers in the town closest to me, other then qwest, and they will not service wireless out where I live. Do I need to go through a cell phone company? and how does that work?
hey smart phone advice? Hey I am switching to qwest wireless in the next few weeks because my dad's work expenses will pay for the bill. I really don't know which phone to buy from qwest because I have a gsm carrier(at&t/cingular) and qwest uses the same towers as sprint so it is cdma so i can't unlock my phone to bring it over. I am 12yrs old and am a big tech junkie (think kewl/sk8r nerd lol) and am thinking of getting a smart phone. I am thinking of buying the htc mogul that is coming to qwest in a few weeks. If not, i'll probably get the samsung m520 that is just an average slider but at least it's something similar to what most of my friends have so i'll easily fit in. Am iI too young to get a smart phone? (ill probably get a data plan just for fun so the ev-do rev a on the htc mogul wont go to waste) *in work expenses, I mean his company will pay for the bill
setting up wireless internet question...? I would like to get wirless internet from qwest. I just got a new computer, and I would now like wireless. The issue is that my phone line isn't by my computer. (it's about 15 feet away) How would I set this up, and what should I order?
question about my wireless modem ? I got my new phone today when using WiFi on my phone for couple of minutes then my wireless modem disconnects i have to reset my modem its been like that couples of times today is there a way to fix it so it wont happen again i am using iphone4s and i have my desktop computer connected to that same Qwest modem pk 5000.
My computer won't recognize any available wireless networks? I just changed the location of my desktop (it used to be connected to the modem directly) and I'm wanting it to be wireless (as there's no phone jack in the room it's now in). However, I keep getting 2 different errors when trying to connect. 80% of the time it'll say that No networks are available and the other 20% of the time, it'll show my network but then when I click on it to connect it says that I can't connect because the network is "hidden". I have a total of 4 computers in the house. 1 is directly plugged into the modem. The other 2 are running wirelessly with no problems (those 3 all have Windos XP) and the desktop that I'm having troubles with is running Vista. The modem I'm using an Actiontec GT701-WG modem that we lease from Qwest. I have spent several HOURS with Qwest reseting the modem (nothing has helped) and then they transferred me over to HP (since my computer is HP) and they wanted to charge me $339 to fix it (and said my whole computer is crashed and will soon affect my photos, etc... which I think they're just trying to scare me to get my money!) So..... with all of that being said... anyone have any ideas I can try? Thanks Jake, I took your suggestion and disabled the 2 computers running wirelessly. This time is showed my avaialable network (w/ just a 2 bar strength) but when I clicked to connect it said it couldn't. I then clicked on the "diagnose this problem" and it said it couldn't connect becuase it was hidden. Hmmmmm... ok, I have no clue where the "Answer" button is here to just add my answer below... so, I guess I'll just keep adding it here (unless someone wants to point me in the obvious direction) I just looked and on the modem itself is states "DSL Modem" and our provider is with Qwest for our internet. I've run wirelessly for years with this same account.. just not being able to recognize it with this one desktop.
Why does my Wireless Internet keep disconnecting? My Wireless will disconnect like every 30 minutes, and I'm an online Gamer, so it does get pretty annoying. when it disconnects, I go check my Modem, and then only two green lights are flashing when there is suppose to be three. It's like my modem resets every 30 minutes. Is there a way I can fix this? I have a Motorola 3347 Modem, which i can use and connect wireless as well. Also my Sister uses the modem as well on the desktop computer. But even when she's off and the computer is shut down, it still disconnects. I have a "Qwest Wall-Jack Splitter" Where my phone is plugged into one side, and my modem to the other. What can I do to fix this problem? Thanks for any help. :)
What are some good wireless routers? So my son and I are about to switch to Qwest/Centurylink. Our old neighbor gave us the modem she bought from Qwest a while ago (The GT701). As my son looked at what to connect to what, I offered the idea of a wireless network. I have a laptop and a smartphone, and he has an xbox. It seemed like it would be best to have a wireless network. Only problem is, the family computer. It needs to be connected by ethernet cable. So here are all the things we have: -GT701 modem -Ethernet Cables of various length -Cable connecting the modem to a phone jack. Things We plan to get: - Wireless router to have a wi-fi "bubble" :) What are some good wireless routers for our scenario? Thanks in advance!
Connecting Cable Modem to 2Wire Wireless Router through USB? Hello all- I have a 2Wire wireless router (Model: 2701HG) leftover from my Qwest service days. I have recently moved and got good internet but the thing is its through a cable provider so its a Cable Modem. Since 2 wire was meant for DSL, plugging the CAT5 from the modem to the router doesnt give it internet.... unless I plug in another CAT5 from the 2Wire to my computer.... thus making it worthless for wireless. My question: Can I connect my cable modem from its USB to my 2Wire's USB and have the wireless working? Or is the only way this thing works for outputting internet wirelessly through the phone line? Any other ideas are also welcome. Thanks all for the help. Quick spex: 2Wire 2701HG - 4 ethernet ports, power input, 1 phone line, and 1 USB port. Scientific Atlanta 2100 cable modem - Coax input, 1 ethernet, 1 usb, power input. Also, if I can do USB modem to USB router, the USB cable that came with my modem is made to go from the USB on the modem to my computer, which is why Im asking the question - so I dont go searching for something that doesnt exist (A USB modem to USB router cable) or isnt going to work. Thanks again.
How can I get my qwest DSL in multiple rooms? I have Qwest DSL service and two desktops in my house, the 1st desktop is right next to my Qwest modem, while my other one is about 50ft away in another room. I have a wired router and am aware that I could set up a wireless network and buy a wireless adapter for my desktop, but I'm trying to avoid 1) running a wire through my house to my 2nd desktop, and 2) the costs and time of setting up a wireless network. Here's my real question: In my 2nd desktop's room, I have another phone jack, is it possible to somehow use this jack to retrieve my DSL, perhaps with another modem, and use the internet this way? otherwise, what do you recommend for a reliable way to set up a wireless network, USB or PCI adapter for my desktop? Brands? Tips? Or, have any tips on running a 50ft ethernet cable into my other room? Thanks.
I want to get magicJack & quit Qwest, but need High Speed & Direct supplies FROM QWEST...how do I get it w/out? I really do not want to have to get rid of our Direct Tv too... so is there a way to get High Speed Internet that does not go thru a phone line, as the "magicJack" phone system requires being plugged into your computer's jack and having High Speed Internet to work. Direct Tv said they only offer it thru Qwest and magijack said they do not have info on how to get high speed service to enable magicjack. I've only ever had 56k slow/old internet so don't understand how to get high speed, is it all considered "wireless"? I asked magicJack and it will not work with Satelite Internet. They say it works thru your High Speed Internet line... but if have to have phone line to get the high speed internet, and the reason to get the magicJack is to replace your existing phone service, then what is the point, how can it be done? I have very little computer knowledge so feel free to talk WAY down to me when trying to explain :) and thankyou for your time! mary
wireless internet at home? I just got a new laptop and I am completely in the dark about getting it connected to the internet in my home, and I need some help figuring out what I need. The end result I would like is me on my couch with my laptop, connected wirelessly to the internet. Here's what I have that I think is related to internet: Dell Inspiron 1525 brand new, Intel Pentium Dual Core T2390, Internet search and portal, Vista Home Basic, Integrated 10/100 network car, Integrated 56k modem, Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini Card, No ISP. So I know I need an ISP. I am thinking of going Qwest DSL, either 1.5 mbps or 7 mbps (any recommendations?). Do I need a wireless modem, a different wireless card for my computer or what do I need to reach my end goal? Am I right in thinking that I will get Qwest DSL (which I have already checked is available for me) which will come through cable (?), and that the wireless modem would be hooked up to that, and then the wireless card on my laptop will pick up the signal and I'll be able to be on the net? I may be totally off. I am planning to do mosly email, some pictures, maybe low-end games (nothing major), maybe a little video, but mostly email and web surfing. Right now, I have NOTHING at home except a cell phone through AT&T. I don't have a land phone line, no cable subscription, no internet access (yet). I hope this is enough information for you to help me. I know it's like I'm coming out of the dark ages here, but please be gentle! :) Thanks a lot!
I currently have verizon wireless but am thinking about switching..? I currently have Verizon wireless and I have about 1 year left on my contract. I'm thinking about switching around to a different wireless company. My main restriction is, it has use CDMA technology; I HATE GSM. So in my area, that limits me to Verizon, Sprint or Qwest. I am a techie and I'd like a new phone, preferably a PDA or other smart phone. I also need good internet access from my phone. And of course, I don't want to pay a fortune. I am weary of Sprint because of their customer service problem. Verizon has AMAZING customer service and I'd hate to settle for something sub par. My issue of Qwest is that they are a MVNO in my area through Sprint so, I'd basically be using Sprint under a different name. Any advice?
How to setup a wireless-to-wireless home network connection? I have a DSL router through Qwest (2wire 2701HG-D) setup in one room of our house, and I would like to setup a second wireless router in the living room (where we have no phone jacks) so I can hook it into our entertainment area. I picked up a second router (Tenda W268R - MicroCenter special) to do this, but I can't seem to make the connection between the two routers. Networking is not my strong suit, so I would welcome any help/suggestions that do not revolve around buying other equipment and/or changing internet packages -- I'm looking to make the best out of what I have. Thanks Alright, I went out and bought another Tenda W268R (for $20, I figured why not). I figure I can create a link between the two to accomplish what I need, but I still don't know much about Lazy, Bridge & Repeater modes -- any suggestions?
DSL Light Flashing? I've tried everything.? I recently ordered Qwest wireless internet and can't get a solid DSL light. I've ordered a replacement modem, so the modem isn't the problem, and I've successfully set up Qwest wireless in a neighboring apartment in the same complex. All directions were followed and repeated and all phone jacks in the apartment were tried. Qwest ran a test on the phone line and said they did not find any problems, and they showed that my service was the only one active in the apartment, so it is not a problem of incorrect termination of the previous tenant's service. Also, the apartment manager said that the previous tenant had no problems with their internet service. What could the problem be and how can I fix it without sending a technician out here? Thanks in advance.
How do I switch off a DSL router and still use the DSL connection to my PC? I have an Actiontec DSL router hooked up to a Qwest phone line. The router is connected to my PC with an Ethernet cable. How can I turn off the wireless signal so that my kids can't use the wireless connection down stairs, but I can still use my DSL connection upstairs? I want to be able to switch the connection on and off as I desire. Do I have to buy a special router to do this? Thanks, Thorpedo
Which Internet should I switch to? I live in Boulder, Colorado (USA) and I'm currently with Comcast. All I'm getting is internet - no cable, no "digital voice" (phone). I hear Qwest is cheaper if you're just getting internet - is that true? What company/ISP are you with, and would you recommend it? Also, do they charge any installation/rent fees for wireless routers? Thanks in advance! Oh my goodness, Qwest sounds horrible! Thanks for the link!
Cheap High Speed Internet In The 55448, Coon Rapids MN Area? I found this Comcast offer that is up to 15 MBPS for $19.99 but after 6 months it goes up to 42.95 and I don't want that. Also I can't get Qwest because the point of this is to run a wireless router and get magicjack for cheap and with qwest you need a qualifying Phone package
Is there a place on my computer that I can find my WEP code? A guy from Qwest came last week to install my wireless internet connection. He entered it for me but didn't give me a copy. Now I am trying to install a wireless printer and it is asking for that code. Of course, he won't answer his phone. Is it anywhere on my computer that I can find it??
DSL to 2 separate computers in different rooms? OK so I want to have my Xbox360 setup to run directly off my router, and also put my desktop computer upstairs on DSL line not wireless. Call me old fashion and cheap, but I do not want to buy a wireless card for the PC as I prefer the security of a wire... I don't have a problem buying another router as long as I don't have to pay double for my DSL. My current router is a 2701HG-D. Any suggestions/links/help on how to solve this tiny problem would be awesome. About my setup: I live in a 2 story family housing apartment close to my University that is owned by the University... We HAVE TO USE Qwest for phone & internet, however cable is a separate company and provided free. We also CANNOT put holes in our walls or change any of the original wiring and we have to have the ADSL cables which are not the ethernet size. I have a phone jack upstairs by my desktop and the router is sitting downstairs running directly to my xbox. I could probably run the dsl cable from the router, ran the cable TV upstairs and it'd be pretty much the same path although they inspect sometimes and i just have it lightly tacked in so when they inspect i just pull them out and wrap the cord up. I don't know the quality of cable we have in the apartments though =S
What is the best way to get internet on second PC that is too far away to directly connect to router? I have a home office in my basement, that is set up on Qwest DSL through my phone line. I have a wireless router in my office with 4 ports that are connected to three computers via ehternet cable. My wife would like to move one of my PCs upstairs to the kitchen for family use. I don't want to run an Ethernet cable all over my house. Wat is the best way to get internet on the PC I put in the kithcen? Should I just buy a USB wireless adapter for my Netgear router? I would prefer to not have to connect wirelessly but I am not sure what is the best option.

Am iI too young to get a smart phone? (ill probably get a data plan just for fun so the ev-do rev a on the htc mogul wont go to waste)
What is my solution to my Port Forwarding Problem? Hi, i just switched to Qwest Internet and Phone because of MediaCom's Over priced services... So, i try to make my WebcamXP Program to work with this new service. Since i had to restart my router, and rearrange its IP Stuff... i needed to set this port forwarding agian. Which i have done thousands of times before. but! Qwest Also Requires me to use this Modem to get my internet. This Modem seems to have portforwarding too! but it calls for Local IP's, and i am using my router. (by the way, i have it set up Qwest Modem (M1000) --> TRENDnet (TEW-432BRP) --> Computer.) Now, is there a way i can still port forward my program and still have my Wireless modem in use? or is that a different story?

Problems with our new Charter internet!? We had Qwest high speed internet and phone for quite some time and everything worked just fine with our laptop (an acer with vista). Recently we switched to charter phone and internet so we could bundle everything into one bill with our cable. The technician set up the internet and it wasn't working. We sat on the phone for several hours with different people to problem solve. We have tried a modem we bought ourselves and then tried hooking up a wireless router and that is not picking up either. It looks like it is hooked up and on Charter's end it looks like everything works but we can't get on the internet whether we go straight from the modem or from the wireless router. Charter sent out a tech and also brought a computer "guru" and used a different modem that they had and it still isn't working. Does anyone have any suggestions? Our Qwest internet is no longer working because it was through the phone and charter took over the phone...however, we never formally canceled our Qwest internet in case something went wrong with the charter internet, so could this be blocking the new internet somehow?
What do I need in order to get internet on my 3rd desktop computer? I have 3 desktop computers in my house. #1 is in my bedroom and it gets internet via the Qwest modem that is hooked up to the phone jack. Computer #2 is upstairs and it receives wireless internet via a PCI card thing with the antenna in the back of it that came from Qwest. Now I just got computer #3, and I'm trying to get it online, for gaming and what not... So, my question is: Can I just buy another adapter (USB or PCI) from the store and have it pick up the connection from my Qwest modem, or do I need to buy a Wireless Router AND an adapter for the 3rd computer to get internet wirelessly?
internet connection problem? I have qwest and I have called them so many times because my internet is so inconsistent. Well now my wireless works but the modem connected computer connection doesn't. My phones work. I don't want to deal with qwest again. Any thoughts on how to fix? Do I need another modem but why would the wireless work and not the other connection? It has been going on like this for a couple weeks however it feels like it has been one thing after another. The last problem that I thought had fixed the connection were that the filters for the phone were bad. So I am only using the phone connection through the modem but I still hear the internet connection noises softly so that is why I think the modem is old. Also I have tried reseting the modem many times. For a while reseting the connection outside worked too. I don't understand however how the wireless is working without a connection on the modem but now I'm thinking maybe there is something going on with that.
What broadband ISPs can I use in Minneapolis, MN? I want a wired connection -- no wireless or satellite. Currently I am using Qwest DSL -- 7Mbps download, 896kbps upload. I liked this option because it has better upload bandwidth than the cable company and I don't have to pay for a landline phone service to subscribe. The other option I have used in the past is Comcast (3Mbps download, 380kbps upload). The price for both of the above options is about the same. Do I have any other options?? One of my friends subscribes to Verizon FiOS for LESS than I pay per month and he gets 15 Mbps download/ 5 Mbps upload!!! I want that but Verizon fiber is not here yet :(
Modem/Router difference? Ok, so I have had qwest internet for a couple years now and since I am a pretty hardcore gamer and do alot of downloading (not torrents) and streaming video I haven't been all to happy with the service. I live in Minnesota, and Qwest's speeds here cap at about 40 kilobytes a second and cannot go any higher, and Comcast is the only other Highspeed internet provider in my area . One of my friends up the street has comcast and his wireless is even blazing, so we called em up and got a sweet deal for 12 months of $19.95 since we already had their phone and cable service. Now, they are coming in 8 days to install whatever they do and I have read that they provide you with a 'Modem'. I am a little confused on the difference between the two so let me layout my setup: I have ordered a D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme router for when they come to set-up. Throughout my house there are phone jacks which we were utilizing by plugging in the phone chord from them into my current router. Are these the 'modem's, or do we physically have to recieve one and then from that plug in the phone chord and then our router into it? Please clarify the difference for me or how comcast goes about doing this, thanks.
